Is the UK in one of the most serious crisis situations for many a long year?

This country at the moment seems to be going for one to crisis to another. This week we have seen headlines in our national papers such as “Police: we may have to let violent thugs go”. “Shocking rise in child diabetes”. Both of these headlines are subjects that B26 has written about recently.

The first headline to a statement by the Met Police Federation Chairman Ken Marsh. He was talking about a video that was downloaded on a social media site, showing a thug giving a female PC a kung fu kicking. Whilst this was happening, it was being recorded by a member of the public, who also gave a running commentary, nobody stepped in to help. The unfortunate PC was also nearly hit by a London Transport bus. I know Ken Marsh has criticised the public over not helping the female PC, however, it’s a pity one of their own top senior officers, Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey didn’t think to step in when a fellow officer was being stabbed to death at the gate of the House Of Commons.

There have been a number of incidents recently across the towns and cities of the UK involving machetes, axes, knives and guns which have be caught on CCTV cameras. Senior police officers fear that there is a lack of respect for the law by some people in the community. These people don’t care what they do, they will also do anything to avoid being caught. Perhaps they know, like many of the people of this country know, the chances of getting away with are quite high due to the lack of police on our streets. A report out recently said that there was a 40 percent increase over the past four years of young people being stabbed.

The second headline about diabetes is much worse than first thought. The latest figures show 7,000 suffers are now under the age of 25. The obsession with people now eating junk food, high in sugar and salt, is the main course, also the lack of exercise. The figure of 7,000 is 10-times the number officially recorded as being referred to specialist paediatric units. This is like a time bomb that could seriously affect the NHS.

The reason as to why I have raised these issues is because at the present time the Government appears to spending all of its waking hours dealing with Brexit. These are serious issues that they, ‘the Government’, should be dealing with. Up in Hartlepool, there are only 10-police officers on night duty dealing with all sorts of crime issues, however, when they arrest anyone they have to drive them to Middlesbrough over 20-miles away due to the police station being closed at certain times of the day, and will be fully closed in 2019. There are times when there isn’t an officer in Hartlepool available to deal with an issue that may occur. The local community are doing patrols to try and deal with this sad situation.

The Chief Constable for Cleveland Mike Veale, has raised concerns about the loss of 500-cops and a £40m drop in funding. We in the West Midlands have had similar concerns raised by our Chief Constable Dave Thompson.

To go back to the issue of Brexit. The great British public are getting extremely fed up with it being discussed every hour of the day on the TV. Let’s be honest, the politicians of both main parties do not have a clue how to sort out this total mess. The negotiators for the UK have agreed to pay the EU £39 billion. However, the deal at the moment looks like a worst deal than we have now as an EU member. If we accept the proposed deal, we could be still tied to the EU for quite a long time without any power to change things. I have to be perfectly honest with you. I have not read the 585 pages of the proposed divorce settlement and I wouldn’t have a clue what to do.

I will leave you with one thought. I’m sure the one in seven homeless now in Birmingham, the NHS, the police who are supposed to protect us, the people who educate our children, the people who look after the elderly and many more Government Departments would I’m sure like to have a small percentage of that £39 billion which we are proposing to pay the EU. One last thing: The former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab on Friday said: “Theresa May’s deal was “even worse” than staying in the EU”. Therefore, Is Brexit the new Remain?

If you don’t already know, the 27- member states have as I sit here writing this article, have now signed off the divorce deal. It is now up to the MP’s, god help us!
