West Midlands Police news update on Solihull murders

Suspect arrested on suspicion of Solihull double murder

Police searching for the suspect in the double murder in Solihull have arrested a man.

The 21-year-old was detained in Sparkhill on Thursday evening (30 August) and will now be questioned by detectives on suspicion of the murders.

Raneem Oudeh and her mother Khaola Saleem were fatally stabbed in Northdown Road, Solihull in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

Officers have been working tirelessly around the clock and have acted swiftly on any information that has come in over the last few days.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to thank the community for their support over the last few days, the response to our appeals has been excellent and tonight resulted in this arrest.”

The family have been kept fully updated by this development.

A cash reward has been offered by the charity Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest of Janbaz Tarin as West Midlands Police continues its manhunt for the suspected double murderer.

Tarin is wanted over the fatal stabbings of his ex-partner Raneem Oudeh and her mother Khaola Saleem in Northdown Road, Solihull, in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

Officers have searched several addresses linked to the 21-year-old – including another property in Birmingham overnight – and seized computer equipment and mobile phones for analysis.

The suspected murder weapon has also been recovered and a van seized for forensic examination.

However, Tarin remains at large and the independent charity Crimestoppers has now put up a £5,000 reward for information supplied by any member of the public that leads to his arrest.

Detective Insp Caroline Corfield, who is leading the investigation, said: “Someone out there knows where he is… I’m hoping this significant cash reward will persuade them to pick up the phone to Crimestoppers and provide the information.

“This is a shocking, tragic case in which a young mum – who has a two-year-old son – and her mother have both been murdered in cold blood.

“We need to trace the man responsible… Janbaz Tarin deserves no protection and I’d urge anyone who believes they know his whereabouts to call 0800 555111.”

A forensic post mortem examination yesterday concluded that 22-year-old Tareen and her 49-year-old mother died from multiple stab wounds.

Anyone who sees Tarin – an Afghan national who arrived in the UK on Christmas Day 2012 – has been asked not to approach him but to ring 999 immediately.

•    The reward of up to £5,000 is being offered by the independent charity, Crimestoppers.
•    Rewards will only qualify for information given to the charity.
•    Everyone who contacts Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and uses their online form remains 100% anonymous. Always. No-one will know you contacted them.
